One lost pair of scissors

Hey everybody - Naomi lost a favorite pair of scissors at the meeting. You know how it is - your favorite pair may not be the most expensive ones in your bag of tricks.

Will you please check the stuff you packed up and if you have them let me know -----

thanks --- teresa

2nd meeting -

The group met again last night. Once more it was a load of great fun. We spread out some show and tell. We had a lesson in rotary cutting and beginning piecing.

I do hope all of you ladies will make this YOUR group. Bring a project - work on it here - put several squares together at home.

Next meeting bring fabric (wahed and ironed) - cutters, mats and rulers - if your have a portable machine and iron and small ironing board as well.

Remember - save the smallest scraps too - go here to see what happens when creative people save scraps.

This lady never wastes even an inch. Rebecca Sower - at this link - will always inspire me. (Yes those are tiny little scraps left from squaring up the edges - now you know why I scoop them up and put them in my pocket)

Pictures from last night. A sample of the squares we will be making for the project safe house quilts.

Mr Ray and Ms. Vera demonstrate cutting. Thank you Mr Ray for joining us loud and rowdy ladies.

The beauty of teamwork. I loved watching the two of them interact.

A detail from on of the Album Squares - Ms Vera shared with us.

Naomi Scogin's pieced but not yet quilted scrappy state.

Naomi's Crazy Patch Squares

I wish my camera could capture the beautiful tiny stitches in Vera's Quilts. Beautiful.

Same thing in the log cabin - also Vera's. The back of this is pieced as well.

Melanie Berryman's John Deere quilt - rumor has it she stole this off Luke's bed to bring it.

Melanie's first quilt - a family tree quilt featuring cross stitch squares along with the piecing.

Naomi's row house wall hanging - featuring old clothing labels and buttons. More views of this can be seen at the MaggieGraceBlog.

Susan tried to pass this off as her work - we caught her in that act though. She is however looking for a place in the next contata presentation.

You know the search is serious when you find Becky in the floor literally digging through piles of fun fabric.

See how much there is to share at this group. I cannot wait until we really figure out what we are doing.
Schedule for the next two meetings -
March 24th ----- Susan Young has refreshments
March 31st ------ need a volunteer for snacks.
Come join us. You know you will have fun.

meeting changed

The date/time for the next meeting has been changed. It will now be Tuesday - February 24th - at the Family Life Center.

For those who missed us last meeting, here is the plan. We will be learning all there is to know about cutting fabric. Please bring with you

your washed and ironed fabric
a rotary cutter and cutting mat if you have it
sharp scissors
ruler

we will be cutting our blocks for a 9 patch pattern similar to the one pictured above.

If anyone from the group needs fabric - please do not buy new. Contact me (Teresa Atkinson) and you can shop the stash at the FLC or me stash at the house.

Also - in addition - we will have a time for show and tell if you wish to share something.

This will be a load of fun ------

See you on the 24th.

We will have snacks.

Welcome

January 29th - the beginning of what Jones Chapel UMC calls a small group. This group of ladies started with laughter and fun. Oh and the "it feels like Christmas" excitement of unpacking and sorting some 11 large garbage bags of donated fabric.

Lillie, Melanie and Naomi inspect the goodies.

Naomi and Teresa A (aka MaggieGrace) discuss the nightgown pulled from those donations - Teresa is modeling it and yes it went home with her.

Lucille and Fran

Suzette and Teresa J.

Vera and Teresa J. - Miss Vera is our expert and the leader of this pack.

Suzette and Naomi - Naomi is also an expert

Melanie and Sharon

Look at all the goodness.

It was decided that we will have a lesson in cutting and begin stitching at the next meeting. Project Safe - a support agency for battered women and children will be the recipient of our first faltering efforts. Everyone took things home to wash and iron to have ready for the next meeting. We packed up the remainder that wee will keep and will take it home a little at a time for laundry and ironing.

Teresa A. took the unusable stuff (for quilting) still very usable for other things and will donate those 5 bags to the Project Safe thrift store, continuing to support the agency we have selected.

A wonderful night of fun and fellowship.

I hope you will pray for this small group as we begin an adventure together.

Have a wonderful week.

NEXT MEETING FEBRUARY 17, 2009. 6:30pm -- FLC @ JONES CHAPEL UMC.
